WHY COLLABORATIVE PLANNING AND INVENTORY DEPLOYMENT COUPLED WITH AGILE FULFILLMENT IS CRITICAL FOR A MODERN DAY RETAIL SUPPLY CHAIN
Given the continued rapid growth of Consumers wanting to purchase Anything-Anywhere-Anytime, increasing constraints on available labor and pressure for “Speed and Agility”, the overall supply chain dynamics for modern day retail have changed dramatically. These dynamics are particularly pronounced during the peak season. Inventory planning, optimization and physical placement (what, where, when and how much) require effective collaboration to align network capacity with inventory management practices to serve today’s demanding consumers. Agility and speed will also drive advancements in fulfillment nodes, automation and well thought out operations/labor strategies.
Given increasing demands on capacity, especially labor, the challenge for supply chain managers is to integrate capacity planning and new fulfillment nodes into inventory planning to increase not only the optimization of the supply chain plan but also the feasibility of execution. In this session the panelists will discuss:
a) Execution and fulfillment strategies to meet peak season requirements.
b) Tools and technologies of collaborative planning, capacity planning and deployment of inventory.
We will look at realistic advancements that we can expect in the use of pop-up DCs and Store fulfillment in the coming years in order to provide the service levels and speed that consumers are demanding. Given these advancements and the dynamic future of fulfillment we will also discuss the implications on planning, product flow and inventory management that supply chain leaders must be prepared to address.
